Own Product (Homework)

Product: Copy and Paste Pen

Description: This Pen is not just any ordinary pen. When your hand is too weak or you cannot be bothered to write out a long piece of text just copy and paste it. Any notes on a text book that you want into your exercise book can be easily written. This pen looks like any ordinary pen (not designed for cheating in tests) but it is a little thicker, because of technical chips inside. Just press hold on the 'copy' button and highlight your text without letting go. Then on your exercise book hold the 'paste' button and highlight above your writing line and don't let go.

Price per unit: £72.89

Audience: The target audience for this pen would be people aged 16-24 this is because at these ages the studying and exams are a trying and important thing. Also because at this age they would be mature enough to not use it for the wrong reasons. As well as that at this age the studying will require taking a lot of notes and you don't want your hand to ache because of all the writing so you can revise easier using this pen.

To Promote my copy and paste pen I would advertise with:

1) Print- I would promote my 'Copy and Paste pen' By advertising on print (e.g.newspaper) This will give the audience a lot of information and there is no limit where as there would be for TV advertisement.

2) Billboards (Digital)- This is the 21st century therefore digital things are more likely to be seen and recognised.

3) In-Store- Using walls, tables and counter tops in places like restaurants to promote my product because everyone who came for a different purpose will catch the advertisement and will want more information.

4) Outdoor and Transits- Many people travel by bus or public transport meaning they will have a look at my product advertisement and maybe read it and be impressed and would want to know more.

5) Online- Promote my product by putting advertisements online and letting people see the when they are on their websites

Ethos, Pathos and Logos

3 Categories in Persuasive Strategies for Advertising

1. Ethos is an appeal to ethics, and it is a means of convincing someone of the character or credibility of the persuader.
This means that the seller has to be trustworthy to the buyer. This could mean the buyer could be judging you by appearance, character and actions. For example on this advertisement there is a picture of a celebrity, Taylor Swift, this could give different opinions towards the audience. Most positive because If a celebrity is using the product or has agreed to promote it the buyer must be encouraged to buy it too because people look up to the famous to become just like them.

2. Pathos is an appeal to emotion, and is a way of convincing an audience of an argument by creating an emotional response. This talks about the emotional feelings of the buyer and how emotional they feel towards the advertisement. For example this advertisement about stray dogs would make the audience feel empathy towards the poor dog who has no home and it sad. This is effective because as the audience feel sorry for the dog they want to do something to help the dog which the advertisement is asking them to do.

3. Logos is an appeal to logic, and is a way of persuading an audience by reason. This way is how the audience feels about something and wants it to be right or wrong with a logical reason. So the audience has to know why something would be good and it has to be a factual reason. For example on this advert there are lots of facts about why you should quit smoking. For people who care about the logical reasons of why you should promote their advertisement this is effective because it is giving factual information.

6.    The Hypodermic Needle Theory is the idea that media audiences passively believe and act upon what they read, see or hear in the media. To what extent do you think this is true or untrue? Give examples to support your answer.
I think this statement is true because the media gives people information on the news or celebrity juice or things that other people do. People who read this instantly believe that it is trendy or in style of this generation and they believe that they must do it as well. For example when 'the ice bucket challenge' was all over the internet and on media sites. People poured iced water on themselves and donated money to charity then nominated someone else to do so as well. This went on like a chain and by some time everyone was doing it.
